I am running for Congress as an independent voice for New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District, bringing together experience as an entrepreneur, technology executive, educator, workforce-development leader, and internationally experienced professional.
My international experience has exposed me to different communities, economies, cultures, and global challenges and reinforced my belief that America must be prepared to compete, innovate, and lead in a rapidly changing world.

I believe a Congressman should be accountable to the people of the district not political donors, party bosses, or outside organizations.
Every vote and every decision should begin with one question:
What is best for the people of New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District?
Your representative should work for YOU.

I’m running as an independent because I believe elected officials should be free to think for themselves and put constituents first.
That means being willing to:
- Challenge the status quo
- Speak honestly, even when politically inconvenient
- Question either party when necessary
- Listen directly to residents, workers, families, and small businesses
- Support good ideas based on their merit—not the party behind them
- Put the district ahead of political gamesmanship
Independence means being free to work with anyone when it delivers results for the people.

Election Day should not be the last time a Congressman listens to the community.
I believe elected officials should show up, communicate openly, keep their commitments, measure results, and change course when something isn’t working.
The people of this district should never have to wonder who their Congressman works for.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping the workplace. Robotics and automation are transforming industries. Housing, transportation, utilities, and everyday necessities are becoming more expensive. Global competition is accelerating.
We cannot solve tomorrow’s problems with yesterday’s thinking.
I believe New Jersey’s 8th District needs leadership focused on what comes next with practical ideas that connect economic opportunity, technology, housing, transportation, and workforce development.

Housing, transportation, and employment should not be treated as separate problems.
The Act would advance an approach that connects affordable housing development with public transportation and apprenticeship opportunities, helping create communities where people can live closer to transit, access employment, and build careers.

America’s foreign policy should begin with a fundamental principle:
The United States must have the freedom and capacity to determine its own future.
I call this Strategic Independence.
Strategic independence does not mean isolation. It means building the economic, technological, energy, industrial, military, and diplomatic strength necessary for America to make decisions based on American interests and constitutional principles.
The ongoing war involving Iran has demonstrated how foreign conflicts can affect American service members, energy markets, global trade, and the federal budget. Congress has also repeatedly debated its constitutional role in authorizing and overseeing military action.
Hughey believes America must have the strength to:
Protect American lives.
Protect American economic security.
Strengthen American energy independence.
Build American technology and manufacturing capacity.
Maintain a strong national defense.
Use diplomacy when it can prevent unnecessary conflict.
Ensure Congress fulfills its constitutional responsibilities regarding war.
